Thank you to everyone who came out for our 5th annual Golf for Ghana's Orphans event. We are so grateful for everyone's support in celebrating 10 years of helping to make a better life for kids. It was a beautiful day and we were happy to hear such wonderful positive feedback from everyone! We couldn't do this work without our generous hole sponsors, raffle donations, raffle ticket purchases, and of course, our golfers. Thank you so much for your compassion and support!
We had an incredibly successful and fun Wellness Benefit Brunch to support our orphans and children with special needs in Ghana! I'm so proud of all of the work that has been accomplished because of our compassionate donors. A special thank you to our absolutely amazing board members who generously sponsored this event. I'm so grateful for all you do!
Our biggest goal is for the children and families to know they can depend on us. That they have the security in knowing they will get continue their schooling, have an egg to eat each day, medicine when they are sick, clean water to drink and bathe in, a safer and more comfortable place to live, and the love and support from our incredible team of donors. When we take all of these piece and put them together, it represents the wellness of the whole child.
Together we've made their today better and we want them to be able to trust that we will continue to work hard for their tomorrows. Thank you for generously supporting our work in Ghana!

Thank you so much for an incredible event! We are grateful for everyone who came and golfed, volunteered, and donated to make our event such a success! It is the orphans and children with special needs that benefit from your generosity and support! Thank you very much!
Most rural Ghanaian children live in homes and attend schools that do not have electricity. School children that live in cities with access to electricity often have frequent power outages that can last for days.Without power for lighting, these children have very limited reading and studying times. Enter... the solar powered light. Solar lights have a huge educational impact in once-dark homes. Research shows children with solar lights do an extra hour of study each night, resulting in improvements in school performance, attendance, concentration and motivation!
We are so grateful that Watts of Love has partnered with us to bring solar powered lights to our children in Ghana! Watts of Love is an absolutely amazing global solar lighting nonprofit bringing people the power to raise themselves out of the darkness of poverty. A Better Life for Kids greatly admires the life-changing work they do to empower those in need by building a better future through safe, renewable and life changing solar lighting devices. Please visit their website at www.wattsoflove.org
What do the children think about their new solar lights?
“The solar powered light allows me to complete my homework assignments, do reading, and study for my exams in the night so I am prepared for school the next morning. With no light I struggled to learn. I am confident now that I can do my work every night using my solar light.”
Few things can revolutionize an area like education. Thank you so much to our generous donors that sponsor orphaned and needy children to attend school. Your gift of hope shows them they are not forgotten. They didn't have a good start, but they can do something great and have a strong finish. That is the power of education. I am so proud of how far these children have come - to see their self-confidence rising, performance improving, and listening to them share about their dreams and goals for the future makes me smile! This is all possible because of YOU and your compassion to give these precious children a better life. Thank you so much!

Why do I have to sign up so early?
We need to place our order for the gingerbread houses in October so that they can be baked and shipped in time for our event. Please help us out by signing up early so that we can accommodate everyone who wants to come!
I’d love to participate but I already have plans that day. Can I get a gingerbread house to go?
Yes! Stop by Dengeo’s anytime between 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. You can pick up your pre-paid gingerbread house and frosting pack, choose your candy and decorations, and get it all packed up to go!
Do I have to register in order to come, or can I just come to the event?
Yes, PLEASE, register for the event ASAP! We are placing orders for gingerbread products directly from your order forms and we will not have many extra on hand. PLEASE register, and register early! Thank you!!
Is there a way to sign up online?
Yes! Please click here to register online. Or send your order to firstname.lastname@example.org and your check (made out to "A Better Life for Kids") to Sally Battle, 8510 Trumbull Avenue, Skokie, IL 60076
What type of gingerbread house should I choose?
You can see the dimensions of each gingerbread product on the order form. The mini is adorably diminutive and perfect for a young child to complete. Or, order several minis to create a small village of gingerbread houses at home! A couple of decorated minis would also make fantastic party favors or table decorations, or order several kits for your guests to decorate at your own party. The pirate ship is a unique and fun shape that 1 or 2 people can work on. Some people may choose our largest piece, the traditional house, to decorate individually. Or make a cooperative masterpiece by ordering one that the whole family can decorate together!
Will I have to put the gingerbread house together?
No need to deal with the hassle of putting your gingerbread house together! Your gingerbread piece(s) will arrive pre-assembled. You get to do the fun part - decorate!
An assembled, ready-to-decorate gingerbread house kit sounds like it would make a delightful gift. Can I purchase extra gingerbread houses to give as gifts?
Definitely! If you use a paper form, simply fill out a second order form with your gift order. There is an option to order extra gingerbread to-go on the online order form as well.
How long will it take me to decorate my house?
Obviously, smaller gingerbread products will not take as long to decorate! If you think you’ll want lots of time, please check in at your earliest available time to get the most decorating time. For seating 1, check in between 8:15 and 8:45 a.m.; Decorate until 9:45 a.m. For seating 2, check-in between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m.; Decorate until 11:00 a.m.
I’m looking forward to the contest. What are the contest categories?
We will have two age categories for our contest: 7 and under and 8 and over. The prize categories are: best overall mini, best overall pirate ship, best overall traditional, most creative mini, most creative pirate ship and most creative traditional
I’m signing up to decorate a house at the event. What if my kid gets sick and I can’t attend last minute?
Sorry you can’t make it! Just head over to Dengeo’s and request your gingerbread house to-go instead of decorating at the event.
What comes with my gingerbread house?
You will receive your gingerbread product, a base to put it on, a box to take it home in, a tube of frosting, and many kinds of decorations to choose from!!
Will there be additional products for sale at the event to help support needy children in Ghana?
Yes! There will be opportunities to purchase additional items such as t-shirts and cards. We can accept cash or checks.
I have further questions!
Please feel free to send an email email@example.com
We have just returned from an incredible trip to Ghana! We are very excited to share that we have begun our Eggs for Kids initiative! Our goal was achieved because last week every child living at the orphanage started to receive a daily egg thanks to your generous support! The orphanage staff view this initiative as life-changing for the children and are very grateful for the donations that are making this possible. It was so exciting to display our logo and paint the names of our generous donors on the hen house!
While we initially planned to achieve this goal by starting and operating a small chicken farm, we were able to achieve the same objectives immediately with much less capital and risk by partnering with a large, local Ghanaian poultry farm. They agreed to allow A Better Life for Kids to sponsor and maintain one of their chicken coops that houses 1,350 hens. The older orphanage children will have an opportunity to care for the hens, collect the eggs, and perform other farming duties. Most importantly, this partnership allows us to provide daily eggs for the orphanage children immediately while reducing the overall cost and allowing us to stay focused on providing care for the children.
Some additional highlights from the trip:
- Visiting the sponsored children was especially exciting because they are all growing into more confident children who are looking forward to their futures!
-The orphanage children A Better Life for Kids supports to attend Kibi School for the Deaf have become such skilled signers! I often found myself signing "please slow down" or "again" because I couldn't keep up with their amazing language skills! It's incredible to see what a difference a year can make when children are in the right environment with the right support!
-As always, it was especially important to fill the orphanage's storage room and freezer with nourishing food.
- Malaria continues to be a serious concern for the orphanage children. In order to prevent the spread of malaria we purchased medication, mosquito nets, and replaced four damaged doors at the orphanage.
Thank you very much for your support!
A sweet treat for YOU --> a nutritious diet for ORPHANAGE CHILDREN.
Brian Novak and Vicki Wolfinger joined forces to host Cookie Wars to help A Better Life For Kids build the orphanage children a chicken farm! What an incredible afternoon of tasting amazing and creative cookies, playing games, and learning more about the incredible eggs will change these children's lives! Thank you so much to everyone who participated and supported this meaningful event! We are very grateful for the generous continued support! The trophy for the BEST cookie went to...Beth Chiet!
Thank you very much for coming to A Better Life for Kids' Benefit Brunch. It meant so much to me to have you there, supporting the work we are doing in Ghana. Thank you to everyone who have generously donated to help our children! We look so forward to continuing to raise the funding needed to build a self-sustaining chicken farm through our Eggs for Kids initiative! The goal is to give the orphanage children a more nutritious diet by providing a sustainable source of protein (eggs) to them each day. This initiative would also offer a structured activity and bring responsibility for the older children at the orphanage as well as providing jobs to local Ghanaian farmers. We would sell the extra eggs at the local market to pay for the chicken feed and farmers. We're so excited!!! A BIG thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success!
