Shelley was truly honored and humbled to receive the Damen Award from Loyola University at their Founders' Dinner. This award recognizes the qualities of leadership in industry, leadership in community and service to others. The event celebrates those who have used their education for the common good and have accomplished great things in the field of service. Shelley was honored for her passionate work in generating crucial support for orphaned and needy children in Ghana.
A Better Life for Kids is proud to announce that through the generosity of one of our donors, Fred Hollenberg, we have been able to establish a fund in his name! The Fred Hollenberg Family Support Program will enable A Better Life for Kids to support needy families with food, education, and housing assistance. Recipients will be families who would not be able to keep their children without this type of support.
Our goal is always for children to live with a family. An orphanage is not an ideal place for children to be raised. The love and support a family provides is irreplaceable. Before Mr. Hollenberg's kind donation, we saw this support as a need, but were extremely limited with resources to fund this type of work.
This fund recently blessed a very special family. During a powerful windstorm, the roof blew off the home of Elijah, one of our sponsored children. He lives in a primitive community, without electricity or running water. Daily life is such a struggle and his family barely has enough to feed themselves, much less repair their home. They were in a state of desperation. When they learned A Better Life for Kids would replace their roof, they were overcome with emotion. A large amount of their stress, anxiety, and pressure was alleviated and they are incredibly grateful! Thank you so much Fred Hollenberg!
