Michael's father died from an unknown sickness in the village and his mother developed a mental illness. He is being raised by his grandfather who is crippled. Midian Education Support has been such a blessing for Michael and has given him an opportunity to receive an education. Michael said, "Having the necessary books and supplies has made my performance in school improve. I can now study at my home with my light that A Better Life for Kids gave me. I want to do well and learn."
Michael wakes up early in the morning to walk over an hour to the local borehole to fetch water. Often he waits in line for over an hour as many people use this well. After school, he prepares foo-foo (a traditional Ghanaian dish) for him and his grandfather. Michael is responsible for caring for their farm animals, harvesting the crops from their farm, and weeding. Each weekend, he walks over an hour to the farm and works hard tending to the crops from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guinea corn is the main crop he grows and sells. He says he is so exhausted at night he often falls asleep without having dinner.
